1993 EDITION

The 1993 edition of HOOKED ON PHONICS "Learn to Read" program came in several different packages, but the contents are the same and all of the parts are interchangeable. The most common package was the plastic "tri-fold" case shown above. The program was sold through 1999 and has been brought back, in different packaging, as "The Classic".

Buying Guide

When shopping for a used 1993 edition of Hooked on Phonics "Learn to Read", pay particular attention to making sure that the beginning portions of the program are present. Many used programs sold on eBay and other sites are missing the part

Audio-cassettes:

Check for missing white or yellow audio-cassettes. There should be 9 audio-cassettes, marked with the year "1993".

Flash Cards:

Many used prorgams are missing the white, ABC cards with the pictures and /or the yellow ABCs cards. Also, the yellow book, #1, is often written in or more used than the other books. Ask questions of the seller.

The plastic cases for this edition are very fragile. Most are cracked or have broken hinges. I wouldn't worry to much about the condition of the case and focus on finding a COMPLETE program.
